POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant Controller Reports to: Corporate Controller

FLSA: Salaried Exempt

General Overview: The Assistant Controller assists the Corporate Controller in directing the organization's accounting functions. The Assistant Controller supervises accounting operations, including, but not limited to, monthly and yearly closings, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs month and year-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries and reviewing the work of others.
  • Manages accounting staff (currently two professional team members).
  • Maintains ERP setup and configuration necessary to ensure accurate data capture and proper posting to the general ledger.
  • Manages the account reconciliation process and takes appropriate actions to clear reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements of assigned entities and assists in the preparation of consolidated financial results.
  • Streamlines existing processes and procedures with an emphasis on continuous improvement and the development of internal controls.
  • Performs periodic internal operational audit projects; assists external accounting firm in financial audits and the preparation of Corporate Tax Returns.
  • Assists in the credit review process of new customers and ensures compliance with sales and use tax regulations.
  • Assists in the development of annual operating and capital budgets; monitors and reports on compliance/variances.
  • Develops reports and analyses to assist management with measuring and predicting financial performance.
  • Communicates regularly with the Corporate Controller regarding all accounting operations and open projects.
  • Performs other responsibilities as the need arises.

Physical / Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to operate/use General Office Equipment, PC
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • 4 years of financial management experience or proven experience in a similar financial role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Ability and willingness to take a leadership role on complex projects while consistently overseeing the accounting department's daily responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to develop a team.
  • Highly skilled in spreadsheet modeling, ERP systems, and relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server and SSRS.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions such as Index, Match, Address, Indirect, Arrays, etc.
  • VBA coding experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with business intelligence software and OLAP cube models a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to exercise sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Absolute dedication to detail with an equal commitment to quality.
  • Proven track record of improving processes and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
